SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SENIORS
All Seniors who plan to attend college or a training institution after graduation should see Mrs. Bovberg, our Career and College Specialist, and Mrs. Lopez, our School Counselor, for information about scholar-ships. They will help Seniors complete applications and make suggestions about approaching teachers or others regarding asking for a letter of recommendation. More information about Senior Activities and Graduation Ceremonies will be mailed to Seniors in March.
HELP IS ON THE WAY
A new tutoring program that offers one-to-one and small group instruction by our VVHS teachers will be available beginning in the Spring Semester, both before and after school on Wednesdays and Thurs-days. Please with your teacher about how to earn elective credit while you get the extra help you need in challenging courses. A special “thank you” to our wonderful social workers, interns and the many helpful teachers for getting this program going.
SENIOR PROJECT
Mrs. Simpson, Government and Econom-ics teacher, and her students are collect-ing tabs from aluminum cans for the Ronald McDonald House where parents and family members can stay and be with critically ill children receiving treatment at CHOC. Our goal is 5000 tabs … Can you help?
HAVE YOU SEEN THE “NEST”?
The new Eagles’ NEST is scheduled to open January 30th, the first day of the Spring Semester. The NEST is a full-service, on-site child day care center that will enable teen parents to attend school and work toward graduation. NEST is an acronym for “Nurturing and Empower-ing/Educating for Success Together”, and is part of the Cal-SAFE program that is funded by a grant from the State of California and will be located here at VVHS. This Spring we’ll offer a new child development class that will be available to all VVHS students. Stop by to “welcome” Teacher Mrs. Kathi Richey and to get more information.
ANOTHER WAY TO EARN CREDITS
The Huntington Beach Adult School offers classes in their Learning Center after school (Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday) from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. See Mrs. Longshore, our Guidance Specialist, to pick up enrollment forms. Seniors have first priority for enrollment, followed by Juniors and Sophomores.

MODERNIZATION
As part of the district’s modernization program, VVHS will start refurbishing classrooms this Spring. Classroom renovations will be done after normal school hours and will not interfere with classes. Classes will temporarily relocate to the library while their classroom is being renovated. Other projects will be completed over the Summer. You might have noticed the addition of a handicapped parking space and wheel-chair accessible curbs in front of the main entrance that have already been completed.
