I'm Stacy Robinson and I'm an administrator for Hunting Beach Union High School District currently I'm here at Valley Vista High School a continuation school is notion of like the bad kids the druggies whatever like the horrible kids but we're actually like here for good reasons it's not what you think you people have the image where it's going to be bad or it's going to be scary even that change but no it's definitely not we are definitely name face Story the great thing about Valley Vista is we are a smaller campus so it really gives us an opportunity to really get to know who our students are so when they come in we can associate uh a name with the face and then once we get an opportunity that we see them enough we really get to more than superficial good mornings hello we actually get to know how their day is actually going get to learn about some of their struggles some of their things um the challenges that they face and also the things that they've been able to overcome to be very successful at Valley Vista Valley is really like welcoming and until there's a lot of people here from like all different walks of life so it kind of makes it easy to find your own people and navigate it yourself I would say for the teachers it's definitely more of like a family like Dynamic it's really easy idiot close with your teachers especially if you're here like from junior year to like senior year and you stay here for the entire of both years um you have a lot of the same teachers multiple times the environment here at Valley Vista is so amazing to watch because of being such a small campus it has been watching the students they're so successful in such a smaller safe environment and you know most of them came from a big Comprehensive High School which I also have been an administrator comprehensive high schools in our district and you know to come from 3,200 students to a campus that has roughly about 300 students we have 14 teachers um the staff all knows the students the students know staff so the 1 on 1 emphasis is so great that like to watch that going on at the Dynamics have just been amazing to see for me having not experienced it until I got here I feel like there's such a closeness to the campus I feel like I know the students very well and um I have them sometimes twice in in a day and um and when the quarters change I have many of those students again the next quarter I really feel like I get to know them well through this through this time and you know get to teach some different skills but I think it's it's that I feel like I know the students a bit more than when I was at a comprehensive class sizes are smaller and um you get to know them better their stories no the teachers are a really amazing I love them they're very helpful they're very they're always willing to have the Open Arms to help you in any kind of way you need and even like mentally physically like with everything I think they're really helpful a tool that was terrible and stuff and then I actually had to come here I wanted to come here because I want to graduate early and actually I am next week my last week um people kept telling me that the teachers weren't helping they were not helpful there is no resources at all but coming here and getting to know all the staff members all the teachers talking to the principal um Miss Muriel the school counselor um they were very helpful there are a bunch of resources here once they get to know the teachers and the support staff they can start realizing that everybody's here just to help them get back on track help them graduate or go back to their home school um so I'd say to parents that um are worried about sending their their kid here um their student here is that that it's going to be okay um we have their best interests in mind and we're really here here to help them to reach their goals whether it's graduation or get them back to their home school so they can graduate with their fellow peers coming here actually has helped me get a lot more balance to help me able to schedule help me just overall with everything like I I had a lot more time work on myself and kind of because the school had gone in the way sophomore year and I had always just been kind of catch up from there but um coming here just honestly it hooked me up it got me right and got me on the right path I've been a 4 high schools so I know I've been to Marina Westminster online school and the school so I've seen like every variation of school and it's just this 1 is just so like understanding and like supportive I can go to the supervisor and be like I've had a really bad day like can I have some help with this or I can go to the janitor and be oh my God guess what happened it was just like joke around with them like the school is very like connected and like uplifting yeah the views that people have of this school aren't really correct um most students that do come here say that they um and we got like a a new view about it because um at their old school everybody talked like very badly about it but here it's like super inclusive and nice I came here to uh get my credits and then go back to school if you're going for that goal that you wanted since the beginning then you can definitely achieve it there's no 1 holding you back here
